PCCSS was thrilled to welcome representatives from the Georgia Department of Education to Putnam County Elementary School today as they presented our Putnam County Charter School Nutrition Director, Teena Carr, and her amazing team with the “Garden of the Season” award!
This recognition honors schools with outstanding edible gardens that support hands‑on agricultural learning and connect students with fresh, local food, and only four schools in the entire state receive this award each school year.
Two major factors in PCCSS’ win:
• PCCSS HydroFarms, where students grow lettuce, vegetables, and fresh herbs served in our cafeterias.
• Our on-site cattle program, where three beef cattle are being raised to provide students with fresh, locally sourced ground beef.
These efforts, along with their commitment to Farm to School initiatives, help create meaningful learning experiences and healthier meals for our students.
Congratulations to Teena Carr and the entire School Nutrition team! Your hard work is truly growing something special for our community.
